City of Salinas Unites Through iHug Friendship Lamps
The city of Salinas, California has recently united in a unique way, thanks to a set of special lamps. The project, called ihug Friendship lamps, was created by local artist and entrepreneur Luzma Umpierre. The project aims to spread joy and connection in the community through the use of light.
The ihug Friendship lamps are colorful, interactive lamps that are connected to each other via Bluetooth. When one person sends a hug to another person’s lamp, the lamp will light up, and the recipient will receive a notification on their phone. This is meant to be a physical way of sending love and connection to someone, even when they are far away.
The lamps have been a hit in the community, with many people using them to send virtual hugs to friends and family during the pandemic. They have even been used to send messages of support to essential workers and those on the frontlines.
Umpierre has been pleased with the response to the project. “I wanted to create something that people could use to connect with each other, even when they are far apart,” she said. “It’s been great to see how the lamps are being used by people to stay connected with each other.”
The project has been a great success in Salinas, and Umpierre hopes to expand it to other cities in the future. She believes that the ihug Friendship lamps can bring joy and connection to people all over the world.
